My ProblemI have a problem. I am assuming that it is not unique with me. My problem is that I like to be right all the time. Who really likes to be wrong? I notice that I don’t have this problem as much with people I don’t know that well. Of course the one I notice I have trouble with the most is my wife and she is a quiet lady.
For the next 6 weeks I am going to attempt to keep my mouth shut when I want to prove I am right. Why? Because it doesn’t matter if I am right. The only reason I think it is important to prove I am right is because I am selfish.
Feel free to give advise on how I can better accomplish this goal. Is there anything else to add to the plan?

You’re in luck, David! I’m always right, so just consult with me on everything and I can tell you if you are right or not!
You are wrong, however, here “Right down this goal on a 3 x 5 card and look at it throughout the day to help me remember.” Of course it should be “write”

Yesterday I was playing Picture to Picture with my family. The object of the game is to look at the picture for 90 seconds and write down what we see in the picture from A to Z. Unique answer gets a point. For R I wrote down rist. I don’t spell well at times.
Thanks for pointing out the spelling error.

Interesting, you have mentioned several books since I’ve known you, usually heavy readers also spell well. Then again I know some incredibly smart people who are dyslexic and couldn’t spell to save their lives.

I have relied too much on the red squiggly for spelling errors.
As have I, David. It’s caused me to edit things after posting them before.

Yes, this is a tricky one. I’m in the same boat as you. I think everyone (or at least most everyone) would agree. The difference, though, is that I don’t just like to be right… and make sure I’m right by righting everyone else. In fact, it’s harder for me to respect someone who doesn’t think they’re right. I mean, why bother interacting with someone who’s not even convinced in their own mind?
for a while I didn’t even realize the problem, but since noticing, I’ve tried to become more understanding with others. Still, no matter how hard I rational, I can’t understand why I’d want to pay attention to anyone who doesn’t think they’re right.
Crazy problem… but I’m looking forward to reading how your experiment turns out. Thanks for sharing with us.

For clarity I want it known that I won’t think I am wrong on everything. But because I will try to listen twice more than I speak I may take another persons views into consideration. Somethings I will never budge on such as the gospel but then again I am not real boisterous about it either.
Preach the gospel every where you go and if you must, use words (paraphrase of St. Francis’ quote I believe.) This is probably closer to how I live.
I will keep everyone posted of how this goes.

I think I better understand what you are saying now. I should really wait 2 or 3 hours to reply to comments after they are posted.
