Do You Follow Jesus Christ Or Glenn Beck

Mother Teresa being Jesus and ignoring American politics.

There seems to be a lot of Christians in an uproar about what Glenn Beck has said about churches and social justice.  Beck said,

I beg you, look for the words “social justice” or “economic justice” on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words. Now, am I advising people to leave their church? Yes! If I’m going to Jeremiah’s Wright’s church? Yes! Leave your church. Social justice and economic justice. They are code words. If you have a priest that is pushing social justice, go find another parish. Go alert your bishop and tell them, “Excuse me are you down with this whole social justice thing?” I don’t care what the church is. If it’s my church, I’m alerting the church authorities: “Excuse me, what’s this social justice thing?” And if they say, “Yeah, we’re all in that social justice thing,” I’m in the wrong place.

Christians being in an uproar begs the question, “WHY???”  Why are you, Christian, in an uproar?  How is this suprising?  Are you actually shocked that the world is telling you to leave the church?  They have been doing so for 2000 years so how is this new?  The world can not see beyond the horizon, the world only sees the now.  They know nothing of spiritual things.

I think that if you as a Christian are upset with Glenn Beck’s words, that you are hanging on his every word instead of Christ’s.  Are you a follower of Christ?  If so then social justice is a must but it is not complete without sharing Jesus’ saving grace.  Follow Jesus teachings and do not give up meeting together (Hebrews 10:25).

Let the world worry about what Glenn Beck says.  In other words, good grief Christian, who is your focus on?

I think Glenn’s point was find a better church – not to abandon your faith. Let’s face it, there are a good number of churches out there that pervert the teaching of Jesus.

I left a church once when a new minister came in who thought we should all go handcuff ourselves to a fence around a military base. Thanks, I’d rather spend my time in the kitchen at the local mission – or raising extra vegetables for the food pantry. I don’t think I need an arrest record to prove I’m a Christian.

    • A local mission could be the equivalent to social justice in Beck’s eyes. Sometimes it is best to find a better church, especially if they want you to get arrested.

It seems to me that Beck wants us to abandon the second greatest commandment which I will not do.
